WORKSHOPS - POUTAMA WĀNANGA
Weaving is one way of how Māori tell their stories. It is a written language in Te Ao Māori.
Learn a contemporary concept weave of Poutama while listening to mātauranga to help you connect and weave your own pūrākau (stories). Each class is approximately 90mins to 2 hours depending on the size of the class, however time flies when your having fun! This is open to anyone (Māori and non-Māori) who would like to come along and join in. Your more than welcome to bring your tamariki so long as they are not distracting the learning of others in the wānanga and are fully supervised by you.
The tukutuku panels are astonishingly beautiful with its weaved textured, non-fraying durable strips. These are hand made and designed carefully to ensure these can be undone to weave more patterns and stories for you and your whānau. Mistakes are easily fixed and you can come up with your own patterns to weave if you wish. The resources are sustainable to last years ahead. Your tukutuku panel will leave an exquisite finishing look, ready to hang up ono the wall once completed.
